North Carolina Vacation: Part 3

Prepare yourself for a lot of pics in this one!

There is a group of people that help patrol the beach and look for sea turtle nests, after they find one they cover it and watch it until its has been there (i think) 55ish days. at that point they take turns sitting and watching it around the clock incase they hatch, they can help the turtles get to the water without the babies being eaten by seagulls.  After the nest finally hatches they wait 3 more days and then excavate the nest to match sure there aren't any more live babies, and to count eggs, etc. We were lucky enough to be at the beach during two excavations. We got to the first one too late, but made it on time for the second one! We were also really lucky because there was a live baby that have not made it to the surface....it was so cute!!!
 Counting the eggs for documentation.
Family photo op at the excavation :)
After the excavation we headed down to the pier one town away to check out the fair and firework show.
Gray was a little hesitant at first, but with Nora by her side, she jumped right in!

This one was a little too big for my lady, but Nickolas, Angela and Nora took a turn
(please note: I had just found out about the "low placenta" so Joey said NO to all rides :( )
The carousel with my two favorite girls!

"Dad I got tickets burning a hole in my pocket..."
One last carousel ride with Oompah
The next day... yup, back to the beach!
We all worked together to build a sandcastle village, it turned out pretty great if you ask me
 Fill...
 clear...
 dump...
 reinforce!
"let me just double check mom did that well enough"
 Perfect!!
 Name in the sand
"Yup, thats me!"

Boyd needed his name in the sand too :)
 Noras name in the sand
 Last morning snuggles!

 Last day at the beach...
Finally Gray felt comfortable enough to venture down to the water to get her own bucket filled

Cant get enough of this toosh!

 "Hey Uncle Nick, whatcha doing?"
 "ooh let me help.."

The shells on the beach were fine, nothing spectacular, but the girls thought they were great. The last day Oompah had ran to the store, came across these huge shells and decided it would be fun to hide them and let the girls find them. Nothing like creating a false reality, right ;)
Gray and Nora thought they were amazing, and didn't even notice that these shells had a nice thick coat of gloss on them! Haha
"oh.my.gosh!"
 "I can hear the ocean!"
"oh, wait, that may have something to do with where Im standing"

 Cute lady!

"oompah, I just found the most amazing, huge shell. you wont believe it!"
 The Sand Village
 The head builders

We had the best week, I don't think any of us were ready for it to come to an end. It was the prefect mix of fun, family, relaxation and sun! I absolutely can not wait until we are all together at the beach again this summer!
